How many different names of puchkas do you know?

Puchka is an all-time favourite street food of India. It is called by different names in different states of India. Not only their name differs, but also taste sometimes. Although the method of preparation is almost the same, the final fusion actually makes it taste quite different. Precisely, the reason why people from the North find it difficult to adjust to the taste of the East or the West and vice versa. Let us discover the most popular names of this delicious snack in India.

Puchka: Puchka or fuchka is popular in the eastern part of India including the states of West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand. The puris are made of wheat flour and slightly bigger than normal puris. There is a tangy and spicy potato with boiled gram mixture along with a tangy chutney and spicy water.

Pani Puri: Pani puri is a popular street snack in many states including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Nepal. Puris are filled with sweet and spicy water along with potato, boiled chick peas, and tamarind chutney. Although it varies slightly in preparation in these states as well.

Golgappe: Golgappes are popular in Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir. The filling includes a mixture of potato, boiled chickpea, chutney served with tangy and spicy water. Puris made of semolina(suji) are quite popular here.

Gup Chup: Gup Chup is the most interesting name of this delicacy in Orrisa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Hyderabad, and Telangana. White peas or chickpeas and potato mixture is served with spicy tangy water.

Pani Ke Bataashe: It is popularly known as Pani Ke bataashe in some parts of UP and Rajasthan. The main ingredient remains the same, just the taste of water is slightly different.

Pakodi: Don’t get confused with the regular pakodis here. In some parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, it is referred to as the pakodi with lots of mints and green chilies added to the water.

The other names include Padaka in Aligarh, UP; Tikki in Hoshangabad, MP; Phulki in some parts of UP, Gujarat, and Nepal.

However, puchkas are not restricted to traditional old puchkas but there are many varieties of puchkas in Kolkata, actually all over India. Some of the popular ones include cheese puchkas, pan puchkas, Nutella puchka, kurkure puchka, corn mayo puchka, peanut masala puchka and what not?
